Since the content on this blog has been snowboarding and Canon DSLR's with the great option of video, I'll follow up with this POV edit from Ian Provo, filmed with the Canon 5d MkII mounted on top of his helmet and hand held from time to time. Who said anything about steadicam? Looks pretty stable to me!

Andreas Wiig, Leave Nitro, Leaves Nitro, Quits Nitro, Joins Forum snowboards,

Andreas Wiig has decided to leave his board sponsor Nitro for a move to Forum. The move is slightly surprising because the Norwegian superstar – who has beaten the likes of Shaun White to several X-Games gold medals – was one of Nitro’s big guns. Wiig enjoyed all the benefits of being at the top of Nitro’s team roster, with a serious money contract (rumoured to be worth around half a million dollars) and a pro-model to his name. Quite apart from the money, Andreas only joined Nitro three years ago, and the brand had to fight hard to get him. Apparently they even got involved in legal wrangles with Todd Richards’ Omatic Snowboards – which had signed Wiig – to seal the deal.

<img src="http://c0573862.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/1/0/7828/146500/andreaswiig.jpg" border="0" width="600" height="753" align="left" />

Nitro’s Andi Aurhammer made it clear the move was unexpected, explaining that Nitro’s graphics team had got as far as designing Andreas 2010-11 pro model when he left. “Yeah, it was a little bit shocking at first,” he said. “We went for pre-season training at Hintertux and were expecting to sign a new contract with Andreas but we just got a call from his manager saying he was going to move.” Still, his old sponsors aren’t ones to hold a grudge: “It has been great working with him and we still have a good relationship, but he got an opportunity to move and he took it,” says Aurhammer.

<img src="http://c0573862.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/1/0/7828/146500/Andreas_Wiig_X_Games_12_Slopestyle_Gold006.JPG" border="0" width="630" height="420" align="left" />

The deal has yet to be officially announced, and Forum are keeping quiet about the whole thing. However, the people over at Nitro suggested that Wiig would also be signing for one of Forum’s associated clothing brands as part of a ‘head-to-toe’ contract. Although this means he will be leaving his outerwear sponsor Vans, it seems Andreas will keep rocking their boots. And while the Forum team is usually more associated with jibbers and powder hounds than contest riders, Andreas will continue to compete as well as filming with his new teammates.

It has essentially the same video frame rates and data rates as the 7D but with a 1.3x crop factor. These rates include 1080/24p/25p/30p as well as 720p/50/60p. The ISO in video mode is ISO 100 to ISO H3 when shooting in manual mode (with custom function C.Fn I-3 setting enabled). Auto ISO is also available.

<img src="http://c0573862.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/1/0/7828/117779/CanonEOS1mkIV.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="626" align="left" />
The audio remains the same as the 7D with no additional manual controls – such a shame. The 1DmkIV shares the same higher audio frequency range and sample rates as the 7D, besting the 5DmkII.

The 1DmkIV also shares the 4gb file size limit of the 7D and 5DmkII. This is due to the size limit of FAT32 file system.

Also missed is the opportunity to shoot to both card slots at the same time, sadly the 1DmkIV can only record to one card at a time. Also absent is any cropped sensor mode in video, surely this will come – but not yet it seems.

There is a new wi-fi pack for the camera but no new audio accessories like an XLR box as some had speculated. Looks like we’ll be using Beachteks, Juicedlinks and audio recorders like the Zoom H4n for some time to come.
<img src="http://c0573862.cdn.cloudfiles.rackspacecloud.com/1/0/7828/117779/CanonEOS1mkIVtopp.jpg" border="0" width="670" height="425" align="left" />
In order to start video recording you need to press the FEL button or you can activate it tethered using a computer and EOS utility. It seems there is no option for IR start/stop like the 5DmkII and 7D, but I need to confirm this.

Have you seen what shots Canon Eos 7d can produce? And the video feature? 7d is capable of shooting in full HD and at 720, with a higher frame per second up to 60ftp. And that creates some amazing shots. Shooting with a prime lens will give you an amazing DOF and awesome look! The camera comes with a weatherprotection feature which will allow you to shoot in rain and snow. Here is a video shot with a primer:
